WHAT IS SKILL INDIA MISSION?
• A flagship initiative to skill, reskill, and upskill youth for employability,
entrepreneurship, and digital jobs.
• Over 6 crore individuals trained across diverse and futuristic sectors:
o AI, Robotics, Green Energy, Industry 4.0, etc.
• Targets both formal and informal sectors to bridge the gap between
education and employability.
RESTRUCTURED SKILL INDIA MISSION (2022–2026)
• Approved in Feb 2025, as a unified Central Sector Scheme by merging:
1. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0)
2. Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme
3. Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme
PRADHAN MANTRI KAUSHAL VIKAS YOJANA (PMKVY) 4.0
• Launched as part of the restructured Skill India Mission (2022–26), PMKVY
4.0 aims to
provide industry-aligned short-term skill training to youth.
• It focuses on new-age skills like AI, robotics, and green energy, with training
centres
accredited under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and linked
to
DigiLocker for certification.
PRADHAN MANTRI NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP PROMOTION SCHEME (PMNAPS)
• PM-NAPS is a central scheme that incentivizes employers to engage
apprentices by reimbursing part of the stipend and training costs. It aims to promote on-thejob
learning through structured industry exposure.
• It bridges academic learning with real-world skills and boosts employability in
both the
manufacturing and service sectors.
JAN SHIKSHAN SANSTHAN (JSS) SCHEME
• JSS provides skill development for non-literate and neo-literate individuals,
especially
from rural and marginalized communities.
• It focuses on life-enriching, vocational, and self-employment-oriented courses
tailored to
local needs.
• The scheme promotes community-based skilling through NGOs and
institutions, fostering inclusivity, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship at the
grassroots level.
Courses aligned with:
o National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)
o DigiLocker (for digital certification)
o National Credit Framework (NCrF) (for credit-based learning
